Our 5 highlights from this years RHS Chelsea Flower Show

This year at the Chelsea Flower show Meristem Design continued our role as the leading installer of Living Walls for RHS Flower Shows, installing 3 walls around the show.

Here are 5 of our highlights from the show:

1) Building the largest ever living wall for at an RHS Show for the award winning Savills and David Harber show garden

Measuring in at a staggering 33m x 3m and housing over 3000 individual plants, the wall covered the perimeter of the garden, providing a natural green backdrop. The plants were all carefully selected for both their aesthetic and their importance to British woodland ecosystems.

Garden designer Andrew Duff told the London Evening Standard that  "The Living wall is full of ferns so it’s filtering the harmful particles out of the air and giving loads of oxygen, as well as bio-diverse trees plus it also includes a water purifying wetland area. The idea is that it’s a space that works really hard, but at the same time, is aesthetically beautiful  and good for us, physically and mentally,”

2) Our wall at the David Harber Show Stand helping it to win the coveted 5 star award

We provided a wall for the David Harber show stand, installing a 5m x 3m one with a planting plan that mirrored the show garden wall. Our wall helped as the judges awarded the stand 5 out of 5 stars!

3) Installing a ‘Selfie’ Wall for the RHS

We were also enlisted by the RHS to produce a ‘selfie’ living wall at the Chelsea Flower Show as a place for visitors to get a beautiful photo with their friends and family as a remember of their trip to Chelsea!

The bee inspired wall on a backdrop of deep green grasses, ferns and ivys. The design showcased the role of bees as an essential cog in maintaining healthy ecosystems, as well as hosting plants to give the little fellas some nectar to keep the cycle of life turning!

4) Helping out in the community by donating our show garden Living Wall to charity

Following the show Meristem donated 70 sq mtrs of the fully planted Living wall system to an RHS affiliated charity. The wall will be re-homed in areas where the inhabitants will enjoy all of the visual, physical, and psychological benefits that living walls can bring.

5) Part of our RHS Living Wall will be installed in Marlborough Sports Garden

Marlborough Sports Garden in Bermondsey is used by local schools to provide much needed space for outdoor activities. Through collaboration with the Bankside Open Trust 10m of our RHS wall will be installed in the space to make it a greener and cleaner area for the students.

We're now looking forward to the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival on 2nd July where we will be working directly for the RHS to install four more Living Walls - including an aromatic herb wall!
