The Benefits of Green Screens in Urban Design

Meristem Design partnered with the London Borough of Hillingdon to tackle the visual clutter posed by electrical cabinets in a local shopping precinct. The clever solution? Bespoke, powder-coated steel planters adorned with robust Hedera Helix Ivy forming aesthetic green screens. This initiative not only veiled the unsightly cabinets, but also enriched the locale with a dash of nature.

Meristem Design helped to turn parking bays into a green oasis in Ashford Town centre

Following successful schemes in Kent, Meristem Design were appointed by Ashford Council to design and install a seating area to bring life to the town centre. This temporary pilot scheme delivers some interventions that link to key themes from the Town Centre Reset – integrated play, feature lighting, temporary public realm and outdoor seating. If successful this could lead to further, more permanent features in the future.

Another Transport for London Station Goes Green

Euston Tube Station is the latest space to have planters and greenery installed by Meristem Design. Before you head down the stairs to the Euston underground station, you may notice there is now colourful planters and greenery, wrapped around the entrance. Meristem worked closely with City Scapes who are delivering Euston BID’s Low Emission Neighbourhood project, part of the Mayor of London’s drive to improve urban landscapes and bring more greenery to the City.

Hammersmith A4 'Fly-Under' receives a Green Makeover to help Combat Air Pollution

There are few urban environments where the air quality is poorer than under a city flyover and the Hammersmith flyover is no exception. The solution: over 95m of Living Green Screens in custom made planters. These pollution reducing screens are part of Hammersmith BID's Business Low Emission Neighbourhood and funded by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Meristem planters on Rivington Street given colourful makeover by Lois O’Hara, an Artist / Designer from Brighton. A collaboration with Lois, W.A.Green and German design brand, pulpo have transformed our 6 large wooden street planters into wonderful art installations.

The 1 year old tree planters have slowed down passing traffic and made the area safer for pedestrians and locals.
